Govt to Expand Price Controls for Staple Foods

Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: The Trade Ministry will implement price ceilings for more staple foods.

The Trade Ministry decided to implement price ceilings for sugar, cooking oil and frozen meat before Lebaran holidays. The ministry succeeded to limit maximum prices of those staple foods during Lebaran holidays.

"We will consider more staple foods," Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said in Central Jakarta on Monday.

The Trade Ministry is still studying the options. The ministry is still discussing with the stakeholders.

"One of them is rice," the Nasdem politician said.

Moreover, the trade Ministry will maintain food supplies. The ministry will monitor food distribution activities.
