Korean Company  to Provide Rolling Stock for LRT Project

Jakarta: Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has approached South Korean railway company Hyundai Railroading Technology System (Hyundai Rotem) to support the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Bekasi Light Rapid Transit (Jabodebek LRT) project.

The South Korean company is ready to provide rolling stock. The technology company is willing to cooperate with state-owned railway company PT INKA.

"They have agreed technology transfer deals for the project. They have impelemented similar deals in Turkey," the retired general said in a press release on Thursday afternoon.

The high-profile project will cover Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor, Depok and Bekasi cities. The railway system will consist of three main lines.

"We can fulfill 51 percent local content requirement in Turkey. We can do similar thing in Indonesia," Hyundai Rotem CEO Kim Seung-Tack said.
