VP Kalla to Attend D-8 Summit in Istanbul

Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Vice President Jusuf Kalla will attend the 9th D-8 Summit in Istanbul, Turkey on Friday, October 20, 2017.

The summit will be opned by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The forum will be attended by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other world leaders.

"It will focus on trade, industry, agriculture, energy, transportation and tourism," the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir said in Central Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon.

"It will produce the Istanbul Declaration as well as the Istanbul Plan of Action," the Foreign Ministry official added.

The members of D-8 are Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria and Malaysia. The objectives of D-8 are to improve member states’ position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living.

Trade between D-8 member states tood at $35 billion in 2006. The figure increased to $68 billion in 2010.
