Trade Expo Indonesia is the largest trade exhibition in the country. (Photo:MTVN/Desi Angriani), Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo opened the 2017 Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) at Indonesia Convention Exhibition in South Tangerang, Banten on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.

"Our exports stood at $108.79 billion in January-August 2017. They increased by 17.58 percent compared to the same period last year," Jokowi said.

"Our competitiveness index ranking increased to 36 in 2017. It stood at 41 last year," the former furniture exporter added.

The 2017 TEI  will gather as many as 1,100 local exhibitors. The event will showcase about 300 local products.

The exhibition will be attended by hundreds of international buyers from 69 countries, including about 100 businesspersons from Saudi Arabia. The venue will be divided into a number of zones namely furniture and furnishing, fashion, craft and creative products, premium products, strategic industries, manufacturing products and services, food and beverages, dan province premium products.

"We should always be optimistic. We should not be pessimistic," the former Jakarta governor stated.
