Jakarta: Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) head Thomas Lembong believes that the government can achieve this year's investment realization target.

"Investment realization will be better this year," Lembong told reporters on Wednesday, January 30, 2019.

Domestic and foreign direct investment realization in Indonesia only reached Rp721.3 trillion in 2018. It only grew by 4.1 percent compared to the previous year.

Foreign direct investment realization reached Rp328.6 trillion in 2018. It decreased by 8.8 percent compared to the previous year.

"Last year's investment realization was slighly below the target," Lembong said.

According to Lembong, investment realization usually increases in election year. In addition to that, the trade war between the United States and China may de-escelate this year.

Indonesia will hold the first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections on April 17. Voters will elect the president and lawmakers on the same day.
