BI Hopes New US Fed Chair Can Maintain Stability

Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo is confident the United States Federal Reserve chair nominee Jerome Powell will maintain the global financial stability.

The new US Federal Reserve chair will not affect the Indonesian financial sector as a whole. Nevertheless, the leadership change will influence the Indonesian rupiah's volatility in short period.

"The US is a powerful country. Moreover, the US dollar a strong currency," Agus said in Central Jakarta on Friday afternoon.

Bank Indonesia will monitor the US monetary policy in the end of the year. Previously, Bank Indonesia has predicted a becnhmark interest rate hike before new year.

"The US should maintain good communication. So, the world could anticipate any surprises," Agus added.
