Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Bank Indonensia (BI) has estimated the redemption money from the tax amnesty program will only reach Rp21 trillion.

"Redemption money in 2016 will only reach Rp18 trillion, while redemption money in 2017 will only reach Rp3 trillion. The total is only Rp21 trillion," BI Governor Agus Martowardojo told the House of Representatives Commission XI overseeing finance on Thursday (9/8/2016).

It is far below initial expectations. Previously, BI predicted it will reach around Rp50 trillion. Meanwhile, the government expected around Rp165 trillion.

"It is far below Rp165 trillion," Agus continued.

The former Finance Minister revealed revenue from the tax amnesty program reached Rp4.7 trillion on September 6, 2016.

The government has launched the program since July 2016. It will be implemented until March 2017.
