Metrotvnews.com, Surabaya: Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Hendar said Indonesia's Islamic finance industry has two challenges.

The first challenge is the global economic condition. The industry currently is in a consolidation phase due to the lingering global economic slowdown.

"The industry have to explore products that can boost real sector,"  said Hendar in Surabaya on Wednesday (10/26).

The second challenge is the low Islamic finance literacy in the country. Many people do not understand Islamic finance products.

"We need more education about Islamic finance," Hendar continued.

The industry experienced a huge boom in 2008-2012. It grew around 40 percent per year in the period.
