The project costs around JPY3.4 billion or more than Rp435 billion, according to the company.

"Indonesia is strategic market for us. This investment is very important for our development," PT Nissan Motor Indonesia president director Antonio Zara said in a written statement on Friday (9/9/2016).

The factory will cover 3,000 square meters. It is scheduled to be operational in September 2017.

"The factory proves our long-term commitment in Indonesia," Antonio continued.

Nissan needs to build factory in Indonesia to remain competitive against other Japanese automakers like Toyota, Honda and Suzuki.

"We target eight percent market share in Indonesia," he concluded.
