"It is the new beginning for Pertamina and National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC)," said Pertamina president director Dwi Soetjipto in a written statement.

"It will boost trade cooperation between Indonesia and Iran," he continued.

Indonesia and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on February 24, 2016. Pertamina and NIOC then signed a head of agreement on May 30, 2016.

Pertamina agreed to buy 600,000 metric tonnes of LPG from NIOC. Pertamina will receive LPG from NIOC in 2016 and 2017.
