The Indonesian Cancer Foundation (YKI) chairman Prof DR dr Aru Wisaksono, SpPD-KHOM advised people to avoid aspartame.  The internist recommended them to use Stevia.

"Consuming Aspartame in a long periof of time could damage the pancreas," Aru said.

"The situation could hamper the organ's performance,"  the medical oncology hematology consultant added.

People are also urged to consume natural sweeteners. They are strongly encouraged to choose honey or brown sugar.

"Surely, the over consumption of sugar could cause obesity," he said.
