Metrotvnews.com, Medan: Each Indonesian region has its own batik, including in Medan, North Sumatra.

Medan Batik is unique as it uses patterns usually found in Batak carvings. The batik is getting popular in North Sumatra especially among Batak people.

Famous Medan batik seller, Nurcahya, started his business in 2009 after participating in a training a year before.

"Other batiks usually have dots. In Medan batik, it is continuous straight lines," said Zuhair, Nurcahya's eldest son, when met by Metrotvnews.com.

Nurcahya decided to start his business to preserve Batak carving patterns. Modernization makes Batak carvings hard to find. Batik is considered as the perfect medium to preserve the patterns.
