Walhi Head to Become Panelist in Second Presidential Debate

Jakarta: The General Elections Commission (KPU) has revealed that Indonesian Forum for Environment (Walhi) executive director Nur Hidayati will become one of the panelists in the second presidential election debeate.

"One of the confirmed panelists is Walhi executive director Nur Hidayati," KPU commissioner Ilham Saputra said here on Tuesday.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) will hold five presidential election debates from January until April. All of them will be staged in the capital city of Jakarta.

The second debate will take place at Sultan Hotel in Central Jakarta on February 17. The two presidential candidates will discuss about infrastructure, energy, agriculture, natural resources and environemnt. 

"News anchors Tommy Tjokro and Anisa Dashuki are the moderators for the second debate," KPU chairman told reporters last week.

Indonesia will hold the first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections in April 17. Voters will elect the president and lawmakers on the same day. 

In order to run for presidency, incumbent President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is endorsed by PDIP, Golkar Party, PKB, PPP, NasDem Party, Hanura Party, PKPI, PBB, Perindo Party and PSI. In the meantime, key opposition leader Prabowo Subianto is supporrted by Gerindra Party, Democratic Party, PAN, PKS and Berkarya Party.
