Jokowi Unveils Nusantara Kris Museum
President Joko Widodo (Photo: MTVN/Pythag Kurniati), Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo unveiled the Nusantara Kris Museum in Surakarta, Central Java on Wednesday, August 9, 2017.

"We can learn about kris in this museum," the former Surakarta mayor said.

Kris is a traditional weapon from the Indonesian archipelago. It is an assymetrical dagger with distinctive blade patterns.

Kris is strongly associated with Javanese culture. It is also found in other Southeast Asian cultures.

The museum will feature 409 kris daggers. It will also showcase other traditional Javanese weapons.

The museum covers 6,966 square meters of land. The project costs more than Rp20 billion.
