NU to Hold Ulama National Congress

Jakarta: Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) will hold the Ulama National Congress in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara on November 23-25, 2017.

"The congress hopefully can provide postive outcomes for Indonesian people," NU chairman Said Aqil Siradj in Central Jakarta on Monday afternoon.

The forum will be officially opened by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo. The event will be simultaneously held with the NU Great Conference.

"The two main issues are deradicalization and development. These two issue are very important," NU media coordinator Savic Alielha said.

According to the spokesperson, radicalism could harm the state ideology of Pancasila. Moreover, radical thoughts could exacerbate social tensions in all accross Indonesia.

NU is the largest Muslim organization in the country. It is the avid promoter of inter-religious tolerance.
