Jakarta Police to Secure Chinese New Year Events

Jakarta: Jakarta Metro Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono said Monday that authorities are preparing 5,263 personnel to secure Chinese Lunar New Year events.

"We will deploy more than five thousand personnel. It will mainly comprise police and military officers," he said.

"We also will work together with local officals. We will coordinate with the Jakarta Fire Department, the Jakarta Transportation Agency and others," he added.

Argo said that the personnel will guard around 332 Chinese temples in Jakarta and its satellite cities. He added that authorities will also closely monitor activities in tourist spots and shopping malls.

Chinese New Year is known as the Spring festival in mainland China. It is celebrated as the national holiday in Indonesia and other East and South East Asian countries.
