TNI, Polri to Strengthen Cooperation to Secure 2019 Elections

Jakarta: The National Police (Polri) (TNI) and the National Armed Forces have conducted a coordination meeting to strengthen their cooperation ahead of the 2019 simultaneous general and presidential elections.

"TNI and Polri will work hard to maintain security ahead of 2019 elections," Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto said here on Tuesday.

"We have urged TNI and Polri personnel to stay neutral throughout the election process," the retired general added.

Indonesia will hold the first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections in April 17. Voters will elect the president and lawmakers on the same day. 

The General Elections Commission (KPU) will hold five presidential election debates from January until April. All of them will be staged in the capital city of Jakarta.

The second debate will take place at Sultan Hotel in Central Jakarta on February 17. The two presidential candidates will discuss about infrastructure, energy, agriculture, natural resources and environemnt.
