Jakarta: Democratic Party chairman and former president Susilo "SBY" Bambang Yudhoyono has revealed that his wife Kristiani "Ani" Herawati Yudhoyono is currently battling blood cancer.

Ani Yudhoyono is currently treated at the National University Hospital in Singapore. She has been treated at the hospital since Feb 2, 2019.

"I am currently in Singapore. I am accompanying Ibu Ani who is currently treated in this country," SBY said in a video release on Wednesday.

"Ibu Ani is battling blood cancer. She must receive intensive treatment in Singapore," SBY added.

SBY thanked President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, the government and the presidential medical team for assisting his wife's cancer treatment. SBY hopes that his wife can soon resume her daily activities.

Ani Yudhoyono served as First Lady for years from 2004 to 2014. She is the daughter of Indonesian military leader Sarwo Edhie Wibowo.

"I also want to thank all people who pray for her health. I hope that God answers your prayer," SBY stated.
