Forest Fires Burn 25 Hectares of Land in South Sumatra

Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Forest fires have burned at least 25 hectares of land in Ogan Komering Ilir, South Sumatera since Wednesday.

"The forest fire started yesterday. The forest fire continued today," South Sumatra Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Iriansyah told Metrotvnews.com on Thursday.

The South Sumatra BPBD has delpoyed dozens of firefighters. The agency has prepared two water bombing helicopters.

"We are still investigating the cause of the forest fire. We are still trying to put down the forest fire," he said.

The National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) has fund a number of hotspots in Ogan Komering Ilir. The agency has detected more hotspots near the regency.
