Jakarta: The General Election Commmission (KPU) is carefully verifying the data of former corruption convicts who are running for legislative seats.

"If we announce wrong people, we can receive lawsuits," KPU commissioner Pramono Ubaid said here on Wednesday, January 30, 2019.

"We will announce the list when we have completed the verification process," the KPU official said.

Indonesia will hold the first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections on April 17. Voters will elect the president and lawmakers on the same day.

In mid-2018, KPU initially banned ex-corruption convicts, sexual offenders and people convicted of drug offenses from running for office. However, the Supreme Court then ruled that the regulation was not in line with the 2017 Election Law.
