Govt to Raise Retirement Age for Lower Rank Military Personnel

Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has revealed that the central government will raise the retirement age for lower level and middle ranking military officers from 53 to 58.

"I have instructed military commander (Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto and Law and Human Rights Minister (Yasonna Laoly)," President Jokowi told reporters on Tuesday, January 29, 2019.

"We will raise the retirement age for Tamtama and Bintara officers from 53 to 58," President Jokowi added.

According to a survey, life expectancy in Indonesia was 71.7 years in 2016. It increased from 63.6 years in 1990.

In addition, the central government is planning to restructure the military. The decision is based on the Presidential Regulation No.62/2016 on the Organizational Structure of the Military.

"We want to add 60 new posts for senior officials," President Jokowi stated.
