Jakarta: Authorities closed Lombok International Airport in West Nusa Tenggara province at 10:37 Central Indonesia Time on Thursday, November 30, 2017.

"The closure is caused by erupting Mount Agung volcano. It is carried out for aviation safety," said a written statement from Airnav Indonesia.

The airport is scheduled to be reopened at midnight. It is expected to be fully operational tomorrow morning.

The airport was earlier closed on Monday morning. It was then reopened on Monday evening.

Mount Agung started to spew gray volcanic smoke last week. It continued to show increasing volcanic activity throughout the week.

The alert status was upgraded to the highest level (Level 4) this month. It was downgraded to the lower level (Level 3) last month.
