Jakarta: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has questioned former Vice President Boediono as a key witness in the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Support (BLBI) case.

The former finance minister arrived at the KPK headquarters this morning. He met with KPK investigators voluntarily.

"The witness decided to came on his initiative today. He failed to answer our summons some time ago," KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah said.

The Fomer National Bank Restructuring Agency (BPPN) head Syafruddin Arsjad Tumenggung was named as a suspect in the graft case in April. He was accused of issuing a release and discharge letter for BLBI debtor Sjamsul Nursalim in 2004.

The document was issued by BPPN without following the required procedure. The businessmen was given the all clear despite still having a significant amount of debt.

BPPN issued release and discharge letters for BLBI debtors after the 1998 financial crisis. The policy was intended to protect cooperative BLBI debtors from legal charges.
