House Ethics Council May Discuss Novanto's Case with KPK: Lawmaker

Jakarta: The House of Representatives Ethics Council (MKD) will invite the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to discuss about the disgraced House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto.

"We may ask information from the agency," said MKD deputy head Sarifuddin Sudding at the Parliament Complex in Central Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golkar Party chairman was named as a suspect in the electronic identity card (e-KTP) graft case in late October. He was taken into custody by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Sunday evening.

The influential politician was accused of receiving Rp574 billion from the e-KTP procurement funds. he was investigated for causing Rp2.3 trillion in state losses. 

"We can study Novanto's case without any report. We should respond the strong pressure from the public," the Hanura Party lawmaker said.

"There are strong indications of potential ethical violations. It is in accordance with the MD3 Law," the senior politican lawmaker.
