Jakarta: Army Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad) commander Lieutenant General Besar Harto Karyawan has said that his personnel will help secure the 2019 simultaneous general and presidential elections.

"We will guard the elections. We will prepare our personnel," he said here on Tuesday.

Indonesia will hold the first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections on April 17. Voters will elect the president, vice president as well as members of national and local legislative bodies on the same day.

According to the General Elections Commission (KPU), more than 190 million people will be eligible to vote. In addition to that, around 800 thousand polling stations will be opened by the agency.

"Kostrad has three divisions. They will guard western, central and eastern Indonesia," he added.

KPU will hold five presidential election debates from January until April. All of them will be staged in the capital city of Jakarta.

The second presidential debate will take place at Sultan Hotel in Central Jakarta on February 17. The questions will cover infrastructure, environment, energy and natural resources.
