Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has appointed Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI) Consultative Assembly Chairman Din Syamsuddin as Special Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Inter-Civilization Dialogue.

"He is tasked to develop infterfaith and inter-civilization dialogue both domestically and abroad," Jokowi said at the State Palace on Monday afternoon.

"He is expected to promote the nation's religious tolerance and the national ideology of Pancasila," Jokowi said.

The influential cleric served as Muhammdiyah chairman from 2005-2015. He also served as MUI chairman from 2014-2015.

The 59-year-cleric has led the Center for Dialogue and Cooperation among Civilizations (CDCC) since 2007. He has also chaired the World Peace Forum (WPF) since 2006.
