Jakarta: The National Police has confirmed that related agencies will cooperate with church officials to secure Christmas masses.

"We can ask about the schedule. We can also ask about the congregation," said the National Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Martinus Sitompul at the National Police head office in South Jakarta on Friday afternoon.

"If we can gather enough information, we can anticipate any threats," he added.

Authorities will hold the Operation Candle 2017 to secure the upcoming Christmas and New Year Holidays. They will deploy as many as 240 thousand personnel to guard various public spaces.

The National Police will deploy at least 90 thousand officers. Meanwhile, the  Indonesian Military will provide at least 80 thousand forces.

Other organizations will provide the remaining personnel. Moreover, mass organizations will support the security operation.

"So, cooperation with church officials are very important," he added.
