Govt to Coordinate with Medical Officials to Help Mount Agung Refugees

Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: The Ministry of Health will cooperate with local medical officials to help Mount Agung refugees.

"We cannot predict the length of the alert status," said Minister of Health Nila Moeloek at Swecapura sport building in Klugkung, Bali on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.

Many refugees have been diagnosed with health problems. Some toddlers have been treated for respiratory diseases.

"A lot of children and elderly have caught the upper respiratory tract infection (ISPA)," said medical doctor volunteer Arini.

Mount Agung's alert status has been raised to the highest level since last week. More than 75 thousand people have been evacuated to safer areas until now.

Mount Agung's latest eruption occured in early 1960s. The disaster killed more than 1,000 people.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has prepared a wide range of preventive measures. The government agency has established a number of temporary shelters.
