Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: The Indonesian government has approved dengue vaccine from Sanofi-Pasteur.

"It can prevent all four serotypes of dengue," said Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI) Sri Rezeki Hadinegoro during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (10/25).

Sri mentioned the vaccine is effective for those aged 9-16. It is administered in three doses over a year.

Besides Indonesia, the vaccine is also available in Mexico, Brazil, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Guatemala, Peru, Bolivia, Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore.

The health Ministry recorded more than 129 thousand dengue cases in 2015. 1,071 people died because of the disease last year.
