Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Governor Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) said he will continue his eviction policy ahead of the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election.

Ahok admitted the policy can hurt his electability. However, he underlined that the policy will give long-term benefits to Jakarta residents.

"I do not care as long as people remember me fondly," Ahok said at the City Hall in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/28).

Ahok said he wants to be remembered like former Jakarta governor Ali Sadikin and former president Abdurrachman Wahid (Gus Dur). He said the two figures are still remembered for their works.

"People still talk about them fondly," he continued.
