House Deputy Speaker Questions Arcandra's Citizenship Reinstatement
Fahri Hamzah (Photo:MI/Bary Fathahilah), Jakarta: House Deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah is sceptical former Energy and Mineral Resources Arcandra Tahar has renounced his United States (US) citizenship.

"I think the process is not that easy," Fahri said here on Thursday (9/8/2016).

Arcandra reportedly obtained US citizenship in 2012. Indonesia doesn't recognize dual citizenship. He automatically lost his Indonesian citizenship when he obtained US citizenship.

Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly recently revealed the government has reinstated Arcandra's Indonesian citizenship on September 1, 2016. Yassonna stated Arcandra has renounced his US citizenship on August 15, 2016.

"The government has to clarify the issue," the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician continued.

President Joko Widodo appointed Arcandra as Energy and Mineral Resources Minister on July 27, 2016. However, Jokowi discharged him after reports emerged about his US citizenship.
