Mount Rinjani National Park is located in East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Mount Barujari is nestled in Mount Rinjani's caldera.

National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said at least 1,025 tourists visited Mount Rinjani National Park when Mount Barujari erupted.

"Hundreds of tourists have left Mount Rinjani safely," Sutopo said in a written statement on Wednesday (9/28).

Sutopo mentioned many tourists refused to be evacuated. They run when officials approached them.

"They know the danger but they want to record the eruption," Sutopo stated.
