Jokowi Urges Indonesian Startups to Maintain Local Values

Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo attended IDbyte 2017 at Ritz Carlton hotel in Senayan, South Jakarta on Thursday, September 28, 2017.

During his opening speech, he urged local startups to compete with global tech giants. Nevertheless, he advised local enterprenuers to promote local values.

"Internet can offer various opportunities. Any startup can compete with global tech giants," the former Jakarta governor said.

"You should use local values. It could bring a lot of advantages," the former furniture businessman added.

According to him, the strategy can protect local startups againt foreign competitors. For example, Indian company Flipkart can dominate Indian e-commerce market against Amazon and Alibaba.

"I instruct government agencies to support local startups. I ask these agencies to tolerate their failures," the PDIP politician stated.
