Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: The Indonesian government has contacted Myanmar officials in connection with the violence in Rakhine province.

The Foreign Ministry summoned the Myanmar ambassador on Monday (11/21). Foreign Ministry Asia-Pacific and African affairs director general Desra Percaya received the Myanmar ambassador.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi called a Myanmar minister on the same day. She inquired about the latest situation in Rakhine.

"We hope Myanmar can restore peace in Rakhine," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir in Jakarta on Wednesday (11/23).

Arrmanatha mentioned Indonesia is closely monitoring the issue. He warned the violence can affect other countries in the region.

"ASEAN countries should maintain stability in the region," he stated.

Myanmar Army razed Rohingya villages in Rakhine over the last few weeks. The Myanmar government claimed Rohingya militants attacked government offices.
