Police Tighten Security at Myanmar Embassy

Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Several Muslim organizations staged a massive protest at the Myanmar embassy on Friday (11/25) morning.

The police tightened security at the embassy. They prepared anti-riot vehicles at the location.

The protesters gave moral support to Rohingya poeple in Myanmar. They condemned violence against Rohingya people in Rakhine province.

Myanmar soldiers razed Rohingya villages in the province in the last few weeks. They claimed Rohingya militants attacked government buildings.

The Indonesian government is closely monitoring the situation. The Indonesian Foreign Ministry summoned the Myanmar ambassador on Monday (11/21). Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi also contacted a Myanmar minister on the same day.

"We hope Myanmar can restore peace in Rakhine," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Arrmanath Nasir on Wednesday (11/23).
