Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Thursday confirmed that two Indonesian hostages has succesfully escaped from Philippine militants.

"The two hostage escapees are Saparuddin Koni and Sawal bin Maryam," said the top Indonesian diplomat in a press statement on Thursday, September 7, 2017.

"The two hostage escapees are currently at the Joint Task Force military base," she added.

The Indonesians will stay in southern Phillipines temporarily. They will return to Indonesia as soon as possible.

The Indonesians were held by the Abu Sayyaf militants in southern Philippines for months. They were caught by ISIS-linked militants in Malaysian waters last November.
