Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi discussed about the capture of Chinese fishing vessel with the House of Representatives.

Indonesian Navy shot and seized Chinese fishing vessel in Natuna waters on Saturday, June 18. Retno stated that Indonesia has rights to protect its economic exclusive zone (EEZ).

"Indonesia is given rights by UNCLOS to protect its EEZ," Retno said during a hearing as quoted in twitter, on Monday (6/20/2016).

Retno underlined that UNCLOS is important international law. Meanwhile, China's claim in the South China Sea is only based on historical accounts.

"Historical claim cannot annul UNCLOS. In the contrary, UNCLOs can negate historical claim," she continued.

Th Former Dutch Ambassador also reiterated that Indonesia is non-claimant state in the South China Sea dispute.
