Kalla to Talk About Terrorism in OIC Summit

Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Vice President Jusuf Kalla leads Indonesian delegation in the 13th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Turkey. Kalla with other leaders from 55 OIC member countries were welcomed by President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
 
In the opening ceremony, Kalla warmly shook Erdogan's hand. The 13th Summit of The OIC was held under the theme 'Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Peace'.
 
Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi previously stated that the summit is going to produce three outcomes namely Final Communique, OIC 2025 Programme of Action comprising of 18 priorities and solution for the issue of Palestine.
 
Retno mentioned Kalla will convey national statement with focus on various issues including terrorism.
 
"We convey the importance of unity in IOC to counter the emergence of terrorism," said Retno, Istanbul, Thursday (4/14/2016).
 
Kalla is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings. In the evening, Kalla and other leaders will have dinner at Turkish presidential palace.
 
IOC previously conveyed its appreciation for Indonesia's active role in the issue of Palestine following the 5th Extraordinary OIC Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif in Jakarta recently.
 
Indonesia underlined that OIC should be able to face new challenges. The organization should 'Go beyond business as usual'.
 
Regarding conflicts between member countries, Retno reiterated the importance of unity in OIC so they could solve the differences peacefully.
 
Indonesia appreciated the support from other member countries on its initiative to establish OIC Contact Group on Peace and Conflict Resolution. The plan is intended to give peaceful solutions for conflicts in the Islamic world.
