Luhut Opens Asian Coast Guards Meeting

Metrotvnews.com Jakarta: Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has opened the 12th Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (HACGAM).

"I hope HACGAM can produce strong outcomes for maritime security in the region," said Luhut at Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/12).

Luhut mentioned the meeting will discuss about maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, environmental protection and capacity building.

"We need to eradicate illegal fishing," he continued.

The meeting is attended by Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapura, South Korea, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

It is also attended by The Region Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery again Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) dan Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as observers.

The meeting will be held until October 14, 2016.
