Indonesia to Host IORA Summit Next Year
Deputy Foreign Minister A. M. Fachir (Photo: MTVN/Patricia Vicka), Yogyakarta: Deputy Foreign Minister A.M Fachir opened an international symposium to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) at Hyatt Regency Hotel, Yogyakarta on Wednesday (9/14/2016) morning.

In his opening speech, Fachir mentioned Indonesia is ready to host IORA Summit next year.

"We hope recommendations from this symposium can help the formulation of IORA Concord in the upcoming summit," he said.

Fachir explained IORA Concord will address three key issues: security and stability in the Indian Ocean, economic cooperation between IORA countries and people to people relations.

"We will propose blue economy and prevention of illegal fishing," he continued.

Indonesia is IORA chair for 2015-2017. The regional organisation has 22 members.
