Retno & Philippine FM Discuss Indonesian Hostages

Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Foreign Minister Retno Marsdi and Philippine Foreign Minister Perfecto Yasay conducted a short meeting on the sidelines of the 28th and the 29th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane, Laos on Wednesday, September 7, 2016.

"The short meeting discussed nine Indonesian hostages in the southern Philippines," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir in a written statement.

"It also discussed about the case of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims and the state visit of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to Indonesia," Arrmanatha continued.

Nine Indonesian sailors are still taken hostage by Abu Sayyaf militant group in the southern Philippines. Previosly, two Indonesian sailors managed to escape from the militants last month. 

Meanwhile, President Duterte will visit Indonesia after the ASEAN summits in Laos.
